Five Ways to Show Appreciation on Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a special day where we get to honor all the men and women who have fought for our freedom and country. We should appreciate and honor our veterans every day but the least we could do is show them some much earned respect and gratitude on this special day. Learn five simple ways to show your appreciation this Veterans Day!

Visit a Memorial/Monument
Visiting a memorial or monument that honors our veterans is a way of paying a special tribute to the hard work and sacrifices they have made for our country. It portrays the reality of what fighting for freedom actually looks like. Some of the memorials/monuments you can visit are: 9/11 Memorial & Museum, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, World War II Memorial, National WWI Museum and Memorial, and many more!

Display your Flag
This isn’t the craziest of ideas but definitely shows your appreciation to not only our veterans but also our country. Now, hanging up your flag is great but hanging it up the right way is even better! There have been a lot of misconceptions about the way you should hang up your flag. A couple rules to follow are: the flag should never touch anything beneath it (the floor, ground, etc.) and always keep the flag high up and flying freely.

Spend Time with a Veteran
Do you know anyone who has served in our military? If so, take them out for a day of fun! Veterans get special discounts to a variety of different restaurants and national parks. This allows them to get out of the house and also gives you a chance to learn more about them. Going out for a few hours helps improve both their mental health and physical well-being.

Attend a Veterans Day Parade
This is definitely one of the more exciting ways to celebrate! Attending a local Veterans Day parade or event is a great way of showing your patriotism all while enjoying your time with friends and family.

Donate to a Foundation
Last but certainly not least, donate to a foundation that supports veterans! This is probably the easiest and fastest way of showing appreciation without having to even leave your home! There are a multitude of non-profit organizations and foundations that provide veterans with resources, support, and even trips to the memorials in which they have fought in like… Freedom Flight South Florida. We are a non-profit that focuses on taking veterans and first responders to the memorials and monuments erected in honor of their service and sacrifice to our country.
